Lazy weekend

This weekend has been pretty unproductive. I did do some vacuuming, (I got sick of flying hair balls while I was making homemade focaccia bread Saturday morning!) two white dogs means lots of fur this time of year! I did made focaccia bread for the first time which turned out scrumptious (I was going to take a picture but had to charge my batteries and wasn't willing to wait to try it out :)!) I also made some banana bread and macaroni salad with ingredients that I already had. My goal has become to cut out as much processed food as possible and to only shop every 3-4 weeks (this will eliminate a little bit of gas usage, and I'll pay more attention to what I'm buying so that I'll have enough for the month and still keep my bill from being crazy high compared to what I'm used to seeing at the check out). A small weekly farmers market is opening for the first time this spring around the corner from me so i do plan on visiting it frequently! I've also been hunting for a bike on Craigslist, which is why I'm home this afternoon. I was planning on meeting a friend across town, but I found a bike on craigslist last night that looks perfect for me, as of last night it was still available, I'm just waiting to hear if it's the right height for me, and where it is, my fingers are crossed!

Getting Started

I tried to start a blog several months ago, but never did more than create this page. For the past couple of weeks I have been reading some truly inspiring blogs about living green and the impact that we can each have on this climate crisis that we are staring in the face right now (Burbanmom, Crunchy Chicken, Greenbean Dreams, Kale for Sale, Chile Chews, Vegan Ruthie and Greener Nashville you are all incredible!) . I've always been somewhat conscious of the environment, I've been fortunate enough to have lived in neighborhoods growing up, and now where we had curb side pick up for recycling, so it's just part of what I do, no extra effort. I've also always been conscious of turning off the lights when I leave the room, not leaving my car idling, that's mostly because I'm cheap. I drive a VW jetta because I knew that it would be better for the environment and my wallet than the SUV that I wanted. I did jump on board with the Green Power Switch through my electric company a little over a year ago, which means that I pay a supplement on my electric bill each month to purchase blocks of green power, but there are so many things that I had never thought of. Sustainability was a concept that I hadn't been exposed to. I am a MySpacer and one day I came across Greener Nashville on MySpace. I read a blog on that page which linked me to Burbanmom, and from there I clicked away on so many other wonderful blogs! Thank you all for educating and inspiring me to do what I can to impact our world for the good! I don't have children yet, but when I do, I want them to experience some of the same things that I did as a child! So, this is my journey to making a change, living simply, and doing what I can to inspire others!
